Getting There & Parking

GETTING THERE

Many of the visitors to the Ripley Bonfire travel to the event by car, so roads can become congested and the car parks are very busy. Please ensure that you leave ample of time for your journey and that you read the details on this page regarding Car Parking and Road Closures.

IMPORTANT NOTICE RE CAR PARKING 2016

Due to inconsiderate street parking by motorists in previous years (much of which has been illegal) the Police and authorities will be actively policing the parking restrictions which are applicable to ALL our local roads.

Therefore visitors to this year’s event are strongly advised not to park on the approach roads to the Village but to follow the “Blue Bonfire Car Park Signs” and use the official car parks.

Car Park 1 – Newark Lane

This car park is located on the road from the Village out towards Pyrford and Woking adjacent to Homewood Farm and is a short 2 minute walk to the main event (this car park can also be accessed via Send Marsh/Polesden Lane).

Car Park 2 – Village Green

This car park is located on the Village Green and is accessed off the High Street.  It must be noted that motorists will not be able to exit this car park until after the firework display approximately 8:20 pm.

Parking Restrictions (when street parking, at all times)

·         Vehicles MUST park in line with the flow of traffic

·         Vehicles MUST NOT park or obstruct pathways

·         Vehicles MUST NOT cause obstruction i.e. parking over dropped kerbs etc.

·         Vehicles parking on road with 40mph limit MUST park with lights ON

Please also consider other options when making your travel arrangements:

·         Public Transport

·         Local Taxis

·         Car Sharing

·         Drop Off and Pick Ups Lifts

This will greatly assist traffic congestion in our little Village and hopefully make your evening more enjoyable.

By Car

Ripley is situated just over 2 miles south of the M25/A3 intersection (M25 Junction 10).

(See map at bottom of page.)

From the M25, head south on the A3 in the direction of Guildford, for just over 1 mile until you reach the first main junction, signposted "Ockham, Ripley and Send". Leave the A3, take the second exit off the roundabout and proceed straight ahead into the village.

Approaching from the south, proceed along the A3 past Guildford. Ripley is the first main junction north of Guildford, signposted "Ripley, Woking and Dorking". Leave the A3, continue down the dual carriageway and then go straight on across a roundabout. This is Portsmouth Road and will lead you directly into the village.

By Train

The nearest station to Ripley is East Clandon (approximately 4 miles). However many visitors arriving by train travel to Woking mainline station and then take a bus or taxi to Ripley (a taxi will cost approximately £10).

By Bus

There are some bus services to Ripley, however, these become very limited into the evening. If you travel to the village by bus and leave after the event you may need to use a taxi for your return journey. Details of the bus services operating through Ripley can be found on the following websites:

CAR PARKING

With many people travelling by car to Ripley Bonfire, car parking can be challenging. There are, however, three car parks available for visitors which are detailed here and shown on the map below. Please read these details carefully, as different restrictions apply to the three different car parks. The car parks have very limited lighting so we would therefore advise you to bring a torch.

Car Park 1 - this is operated by the Ripley Bonfire Association and is the largest and most easily accessible of the car parks. Situated on Newark Lane, it has capacity for approximately 1,000 cars. There is a fixed fee of £2 to park, this is for parking only and not in place of donations to the event. Please note, Car Park 1 closes at 10.30 pm sharp, at which time the gates will be locked. If you have parked your car here and intend to stay later than 10.30 pm, please ensure that you move your car in advance otherwise it will be locked in for the night.

ONE WAY SYSTEM - BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8.15 AND 9.45 PM A ONE WAY SYSTEM WILL BE IN OPERATION UPON EXITING CAR PARK 1. THIS IS DESIGNED TO ALLEVIATE THE TRAFFIC ISSUES THAT HAVE SOMETIMES BEEN EXPERIENCED IN THIS AREA AND SHOULD ENSURE A SPEEDIER RETURN HOME FOR ALL VISITORS.

Car Park 2 - this car park is also operated by the Association. It is based at the back of the green with extremely limited capacity and therefore is full very early during the event. Access to this car park can be very challenging as it is necessary to cross the green, and therefore negotiate the crowds, to both enter and leave the car park. Due to the location and limited capacity of this car park, if you arrive later, intend on leaving shortly after or before the fireworks, or need to make a swift exit, then you are strongly advised to use Car Park 1 in Newark Lane.

ROAD CLOSURES

As the Torchlit Procession leaves the village hall and makes its way down Portsmouth Road to the green, the following road closures will be in place:

7.10pm - 7.40pm

  • Portsmouth Road - between the village hall and White Horse Lane
  • Newark Lane - no access into or out of Newark Lane at the junction with Portsmouth Road
  • Rose Lane - no access into or out of Rose Lane at the junction with Portsmouth Road
